Where to start

If you want to create a Biosphere but aren't sure how to begin then you're in the right place! Here we'll give you some ideas of how to get started producing as many, or as few, worldbuilding areas as you want using a whatever approach suits you best.

Generally, you may want to take either of two approaches:

  1. From an idea outwards - this is where you start with an idea, concept or tone and build your world around that.
  2. From the ground up - this is where you begin with the fundamental principles of any world, developing them until you have a deep and layered world. Not interested in a particular element of the world? Then ignore it - just pick and choose whatever excites you!

Depending on if you have something in mind (1), or if you just want to try the process of making a world (2), choosing one of these techniques may help. The two pages below represent both approaches respectively.

Basing Concepts on Genre

(1) Choosing the genre first can help you start figuring out the tone of the world and what ideas might fit your setting, so here we'll give a run-down of some of the genres you might want to choose from, and how they might shape the type of Biosphere you're creating. If you're looking for examples that may fit a particular genre, Sci-Fi for example, then search on that term to find some relevant suggestions.

Worldbuilding Questions

(2) This is where we'll provide you with worldbuilding questions that cover many areas: from wider society to the environment to the details of the Biosphere itself, so you can develop as much or as little as you'd like. You can create your own answers or pick/roll from some pre-written suggestions.
